"You and I Have a Rendezvous With Destiny" 60 Years Later

"A Time For Choosing" speech by President Ronald Reagan, Oct. 27, 1964

I spent the afternoon with one of the icons of my life, President Reagan, or as close to it as we are able to achieve, by watching videos of some of his most famous speeches especially the one all those years ago which launched his political career. I have no idea what hidden force guided me to this viewing on this particular day in our Nation’s history just two days before the most important Presidential electon in my lifetime but I am grateful to that force, or whatever it was, beyond words. The reasons I am jotting these words are several but perhaps most importantly to suggest that every American who is praying that we will reclaim our Presidency from the darkness and evil which has shrouded it for the last four years should be reminded what it was like in the days when one who deeply loved his country could be elevted to the highest office in the land.

Perhaps I was guided to re-live those words I heard 60 years ago due to a sense of being, in the true sense of the word, terrified at the very real prospect of the leadership of our beloved Nation being turned over to a person who was raised and taught by a radically Marxist professor, who is herself based on her public statements over the years a Marxist and whose running mate is an unabashed devotee of our most dangerous ally, China.

My icons, President Reagan, Sir Winston Churchill and Lady Margaret Thatcher, could never have believed what has become of the United States of America they all deeply loved and deeply cherished.

It is for this reason that I am sending the links to both videos I viewed this afternoon as well as a link to the transcript of the “Time For Choosing” speech without engaging in the audacious assumption that I could even begin to summarize those magnificent words or to convey the force which they were delivered.

I will, however, be bold enough to say that two days from now we will all have a Rendezvous with Destiny. Pray that in the immortal words of another great leader who spoke a century before President Reagan “the better angels of our nature” will guide us to the right decision.
