Menendez: Whatever Happened to the Presumption of Innocence?
Under the bus he goes! Based on what evidence? Based on what verdict?
In 2007 a book was published which made an indelible impression on me as it empitomized a growing sickness in our society at that time, now much more advanced, of simply judging one accused of wrongdoing simply on the strength of how much the offense constituted an affront to political correctness, not based on any objective analysis of the evidence pro or con and certainly not permitting any delay - any delay— in the rush to judgment. The book was Until Proven Innocent, and it was about, in the words of the cover, “Political Correctness and The Shameful Injustices of the Duke Lacrosse Rape Case.” That book, and the deep and nasty stain on our American system of justice it portrayed, has come back to me time and time again in recent years, marked by the abjectly corrupt conduct of the Biden-Merrick Department of Justice on many fronts, but most particularly in the mad dog persecution of grandmotherly pedestrians in the Captiol building for the “crime” of parading, heretofore basically unheard of .
The story of the fine young men of the Duke Lacrosse team fortunately has a “happy” ending, thanks to a team of phenomenally talented lawyers who proved their innocence and, in the process, the malice of the filthy DA who persisted in the charges and the baying hounds of the faculty who signed a letter of accusation which to this day, many years later, has not been retracted nor apology issued therefor.
They were innocent, as proven by the exhaustive investigation performed by and for the attorneys and the skillful manner in which they presented their findings.
In this time of demands that Sen. Menendez resign from his Senate seat and that he basically just go ahead and admit guilt on all charges, based on the filing of a long talking indictment filed by the same DOJ which let several extremely serious tax crimes against Hunter Biden prescribe and which, to this day, refuses to indict the President’s son on the most obvious FARA crime because it is the one charge which will implicate the President, it almost seems downright unAmerican to even suggest that there just might be another side to the story.
I could not count the times when one of our cases looked like a slam-dunk winner, only to have to sit through days of agonizing defense testimony proving that our client was either suffering from the worst memory in history or that he was, simply, a pathological liar.
Today, Sen. Menendez announced his decision to run for re-election. Democrats and the Mainstream Media, but I repeat myself, howled at the impossibiltiy of his being a serious candidate for re-election since we all know he is guilty! Really? So who are we to tell the good citizens of New Jersey who they can or cannot vote for? Where were these Democrats when the fine people of Pennsylvania, in their infinite wisdom, elected a person who cannot form a complete sentence and who looks like something which just fell out of a boxcar, although that is an insult to hoboes everywhere. Chicago just did the impossible and elcted a Mayor who will be far worse than Lori Lightfoot, truly unimaginable. Who are we to say that is not their right as insane as we may think it is? If the people of New Jersey decide to elect Sen. Menendez to another term, that is their untrammelled right, just as it was the right of “81 million” voters to elect a drooling, non-entity, corrupt, doddering old pol who does not know where he is half the time to the highest office in the land- like it or not.
I would be the first to admit there is a distinct — shall we say? — aroma coming off the pile of evidence the ever-pristine and pure as the wind-driven snow DOJ has accumulated and described in meticulous detail and photographed. However, painful as it seems to be to the Democrats and the Mainstream Media, there I go again, to admit it, “aroma” is not evidence and until a jury presented with evidence in a proper forum decides the evidence is sufficient for a guilty verdict, Sen. Menendez is as innocent as you or me— and I can’t speak for you but I know I have no gold bars, bundles of cash in my closets or Mercedes coupes sitting in my driveway!
A final note about the presumption of innocence. President Trump seems to get indicted every other day by someone; curious isn’t it that they are all Democrats? He is to this moment, unless I have missed some breathless news flash from MSNBC, still an innocent man under the law, no matter how loud the baying hounds may cry. And, unless the Democrats can figure out a way to take this right from me, I will vote for him in 2024 whether he is still a free man or in some Democrat hellhole (euphemism for what they really are) of a gulag like the Jan 6 defendants.
As of now he is innocent.
What sickness has infected our country to the point that we have forgotten that basic truth?
It is a very dangerous sickness and should frighten us all as we all could be there one day with our very lives at the mercy of the DOJ Stasi goons, convicting us by their mere presence in our front yards in their armored tanks.
Sen. Menendez, an American citizen, is presumed innocent until proven guilty in an appropriate forum of justice.
He is an innocent man.
Period.
