Omaha Beach, July, 2019
I had the amazingly good fortune to go on a D-Day to the Rhine Tour in the Summer of 2019, and one of the indelibly memorable experiences was to be able to walk on those sacred shores, such as this one. Only by walking there does one have the real sense of the immensity of the landing zones- Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword, and the indescribable physical obstacles the liberators faced—other, obviously, than cannon and rifle fire and every kind of explosive device the enemy could fire at them — and it is impossible for me to paint a word picture of what being physically on these beaches does for one’s appreciation for what those men did that longest day.
God Bless their souls, each and every one of them.
And,
God Bless America.
