A Tiny Rainbow of Light in the Still Quiet of the Early Morning
This will be very brief as was the life of the beautiful phenomenon Nature treated me to this morning.
Some of my favorite moments of the day are those early minutes on my deck surrounded by the loveliness of our part of the world, the lushness of the stately row of longleaf pine trees standing guard over the pond behind our home and, perhaps most importantly, the almost eerie quiet before the cacophony of sound arises as the lawnmowers and leaf blowers arrive with their jarring entrance.
As I sat relishing every minute of that time I became aware of a tiny, bright, entrancing spot of light coming from deep within a large bush on my neighbor’s yard. But it was not only a solitary little spot of brightness but a very small prism the colors of a rainbow. I am not by any stretch of the imagination what may be called a crystal gazer and there is not a single crystal handing in my home but this miniscule spot of glistening, colorful light was truly trance inducing.
As I sat there wanting to enjoy every second of its show, I realized it must have been a tiny drop of early morning dew or the last drop left by my neighbor’s sprinkler.
And then the sun topped the tree line and within moments my private little rainbow was…..
Gone.
That’s it. It was over as quickly as it began. No deep meaning or, as I am not a philosopher, any timeless messages about the meaning of life. However, these fleeting miracles do have a way of reminding us that those little lights, those sounds of a hummingbird landing on a nearby feeder, those precious moments of time so silent you can almost hear them, will be with us long after the sound and fury of our current travails are gone.
That alone made my little rainbow light show worth it.
